We’re an unmarried Alberta couple. We have a child (10). I am 50/50 contributor to the mortgage and household and my name is on title and mortgage. If I leave the physical residence to a rental, what happens to my property rights, possession of the home, equity, and parenting rights? Do we get two years duting the “separation” period to come to an property division agreement? I’m hearing people say I forfeit and now I am scared to leave.
